Where it all began…

Silly Jenny was born in a time when the world seemed so dark and confusing.

She was a way for me to escape the stress and dream of a life after a pandemic, or at least a way through it. Her purpose was to spread joy and cheer when it felt like there wasn’t much to smile about. At least, that’s what she did for me and what she continues to do for me as I share her with my friends and family, my community and the world.

When everything shut down, I was looking for busy work and decided to pull out some old stories and finally typed them up to save on my computer. That was when I found the original story of Jenny and had the idea of how I could turn my very short story into an actual children's book.

I originally wrote Jenny's story back in 2018 when I was a program leader in an after school program. I was leading a writing prompt lesson with the children. We used a "Roll a Story" writing prompt method. It involves rolling dice and matching the number with the correlating number column for characters, settings, and plots. My prompt was "A dragon in a jelly bean factory fights aliens." And thus, Silly Jenny was born!

Then began the process of finding the right dragon. It took me several attempts to find Jenny amidst my sorry attempts at drawing dragons. It was a battle between my dream of what I could see Jenny being and the self doubt that told me I didn't have what it took to draw a children's book. But I kept trying and after several weirdly drawn dragons, I found Jenny and the rest literally flowed effortlessly. The whole process was so fun but watching Jenny really come to life in book and plush toy form has been the best!

I have always loved writing stories. Whether it was picture books or short chapter stories, creating has always been a part of my life.

It’s been exciting to be able to use my God given passions and talents and turn them into these books that I can share with the world.

It’s filled me with indescribable joy to see and hear of children enjoying Silly Jenny’s story because that’s what it has all been about. I want my stories to bring families together just as it brought me and my little brothers together over the years as we snuggled together with a good book before bed. If I were to never sell another copy, I’d say it has all been so worth it to see the joy Silly Jenny has brought to children.
